For a while now, I’ve tried to use Atom rather than RSS, simply because it’s a better format (as I understand it, RSS isn’t actually XML, it just looks like it; Atom is XML). When browsing through Mark Pilgrim’s blog archive, I found more evidence to support that theory:
RSS 0.90 is incompatible with Netscape’s RSS 0.91, Netscape’s RSS 0.91 is incompatible with Userland’s RSS 0.91, Netscape’s RSS 0.91 is incompatible with RSS 1.0, Userland’s RSS 0.91 is incompatible with RSS 0.92, RSS 0.92 is incompatible with RSS 0.93, RSS 0.93 is incompatible with RSS 0.94, RSS 0.94 is incompatible with RSS 2.0, and RSS 2.0 is incompatible with itself.
I think I’m going to start automatically deleting every email that contains the
string “-----Original Message-----”. If people can’t be bothered to quote
emails sensibly, then I can’t be bothered to read them. Especially when their
broken quoting habits lead to them quoting again, in the middle of the message,
as well as at the bottom.

Well, somehow GMail mistook my attempt to import some of my old emails into it for an attempt to forward them all to the original recipient. Apologies if you’ve gotten old (probably TermiSoc-related) emails from 2005 or so.
UPSU’s new website is just plain shit. The login form seems to redirect me to the front page, without logging me in. The TermiSoc page there (previously as good as we could manage with the limited control we had over it) now appears to be - yet again - the front page. I’m getting spam about some DJ I couldn’t give a rat’s arse about, but there’s no unsubscribe link - except one that unsubscribes you from the entire website. The site appears to be called “UPSU University Students Union - The Home For UPSU University Students”, which is just nonsensical.
Hmm… not actually a bad idea…
The old website, though still shit, was better than this. Anyone with a clue could have done better with Joomla in five minutes.
