As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the idea of a games night has come up. Since nothing will happen unless someone prods everyone into making it happen, how about Sunday evenings starting from January 5th at about 5pm?
If you’re interested, let me know beforehand; too many people would be a Bad Thing, but so would too few. You don’t have to commit to coming every week, I’d just like a rough idea of who’d come along.
Also, suggestions of games would be good; so far I have LOTR "Risk" and Dan has "Settlers of Catan"; I also have LOTR "Labyrinth", and the Discworld-inspired "Thud" in Sunderland, but Thud especially is heavy, so I may not bring them back with me.
Well, yesterday (Saturday) was the second TermiSoc LAN party this term. I went along, though as I’m not generally much of a gamer it was mainly as an attempt to be sociable.
However, that changed a couple of hours in, when Dan arrived; he didn’t have a working computer, so he went out and bought a board game instead: Settlers Of Catan. It’s quite popular among the kind of geek who also plays, for example, Dungeons and Dragons or Risk; I’ve heard it mentioned a few times on Planet Debian. Anyway, since Dan and I both fit its target demographic pretty well, we decided to give it a go, and along with Carl we spent a good few hours rolling dice instead of hitting buttons. Chrissey, Ed, Gareth, and I had another game later, which didn’t go so well—for me, anyway. :(
Anyway, it’s quite possible that we’re going to make it a regular thing—Settlers, Risk, etc. Watch this space.
